History Graduate Study Room
The History Graduate Study Room houses a non-circulating collection of reference works and scholarly
journals in history, and also the reserve reading for graduate-level history courses. The room
is open whenever Firestone Library is open. Originally located on A floor, it was relocated to C floor
in 1971, when B and C floors were expanded, to a new room given in memory of L. Stockwell Jadwin 1928
by Mrs. Stanley P. Jadwin. The room was further enlarged in 1988.
The reference collection includes works such as dictionaries and encyclopedias, historical atlases and
gazetteers, encyclopedias, biographical dictionaries, and style manuals. There are bibliographical
guides and selected guides to archival collections. There is also a selection of recent historiography, largely
works that might be helpful to students studying for the General Examination.
Within the room there are 59 carrels for use by history graduate students, extra shelves for
graduate students studying for their general examinations, lockers for personal possessions, and
some unassigned study space. To apply for a carrel, please see the application form at
Carrel Information.

Room, please contact the History Librarian at the address below.
