Application Deadline Date: Open Unitl Filled The Library seeks an energetic, production-oriented person to process approval plan receipts in Turkish. Using the Library’s online system, the successful candidate will search the catalog, the main bibliographic utility (OCLC), download and create catalog records, create holdings and item records, create online purchase orders, and catalog books with LC/PCC and non LC/PCC catalog records as well as selected original cataloging and create name authority records for modern Turkish personal names for the national authority file. Required: In-depth knowledge of Turkish, ability to search and interpret catalog records and understand their relationships, and the ability to edit online records accurately. Computer skills are essential to perform this job. In addition to basic Windows skills (copy/paste, switching between windows, using alternate keys, etc.), the job requires logging into, searching, and manipulating data in several different systems. Ability to do sustained detail work at a computer workstation and operate a system with a graphical user interface requiring use of a mouse. Ability to use a barcode scanner. Must be able to move books from shelf to book truck and vice versa. Reliability and the ability to work constructively with coworkers are essential. Good working knowledge of other Near Eastern languages or Slavic languages is desired. Preferences: A comprehensive understanding of technical services in an academic library environment, especially the acquisition to cataloging process, is highly desirable. The position requires an individual who is able to work accurately and quickly, with a high degree of independent judgment, and capable of prioritizing assignments and performing under the pressure of deadlines. This specialist is responsible for a broad range of e-journal acquisition tasks, with minimal supervisory oversight, performing duties that include preorder searching; vendor selection; order creation in both the Library’s integrated system and electronic resources management system; invoicing; and follow-up on problem orders and service interruptions to facilitate timely access to these high-profile resources. A premium is placed on excellent communication skills because the E-Journal Specialist will be expected to communicate regularly with subscription agencies, publishers, Collection Development staff, and the Digital Resources Coordinator to ensure prompt service and accurate billing. The Library seeks an energetic and detail oriented individual to catalog rare books forming part of the Elmer Adler collections in Graphic Arts. These are historically significant publications documenting the history of books, book publishing, fine-press printing, and printmaking. Tasks include bibliographic searching using the library's integrated system, creating and editing catalog records (including special form/genre terms), and assessing the need for conservation treatment. This position offers the opportunity to work with a unique collection in a dynamic team setting. Requirements: Understanding of cataloging principles and the ability to apply them to diverse materials. Ability to search, create, and edit MARC records. Demonstrated ability to work accurately and quickly with detailed information, and to communicate such information. The ability to absorb instructions quickly and work successfully both independently and under supervision is essential for this position. Application Deadline Date: July 1, 2008 Senior Bibliographic Specialist II – Requisition # 0800337 Hours are Monday- Friday 12:00 pm – 8:00 pm during the academic year and will vary during summer and break periods. The Library is seeking a highly organized, public service-oriented individual to oversee the Firestone Library’s periodical and newspaper collections and to manage the Reserve Department’s orders for course materials. Principal duties include: ensuring that materials are properly shelved, gathered for binding and adding, and claimed, as appropriate; providing basic reference service for periodical and newspaper users, interpreting catalog records and locating material in all formats; processing and managing new serial titles, title changes and closings in periodicals and newspapers collections; reviewing and distributing communications from Periodical Receipts and Cataloging units and various selectors; maintaining reports on relevant statistics; serving as primary liaison to other Technical Services units and selectors regarding workflow issues; overseeing and coordinating collaborative projects with these units; providing guidance, secondary support and functional supervision as needed to other staff and to students in solving bibliographic and periodical-related problems. The incumbent conducts pre-order searches; inputs book orders for course materials; reviews purchases to ensure accuracy; verifies bibliographic information; and updates records in the integrated library system. As a member of the Reserves staff, the incumbent also performs circulation desk duties, including charging, discharging, renewing and placing requests for reserve material and laptops; communicates loan and fines policies to users; and accepts fines and fee payments. During the academic year, the incumbent will physically process traditional reserve items; initiate recall, hold, trace, ILL and branch library requests related to course reserves; add items to courses in Voyager Reserve module; update and create item records; scan content from hard copy and set up links to online resources for electronic course reserves; and maintain a problem file of outstanding reserve requests for follow up with staff, faculty and departmental secretaries. He or she will supervise up to three Periodicals unit student employees; hire, train, delegate, schedule and evaluate their work; and institute disciplinary actions when necessary. Required: The successful candidate must have previous library experience in either public or technical services. He or she must have a demonstrated public service orientation; effective communication skills in English (written and spoken); working knowledge of at least one Western European language; demonstrated bibliographic skills, especially in searching library systems and databases; familiarity with library integrated systems such as Ex Libris Voyager. Ability to exercise good judgement in dealing with non-routine security problems which often include cooperative exchange with the University Public Safety Department.
